Dr Bassily is a highly experienced gastroenterologist servicing the northern suburbs of Melbourne. His Advanced Physician Training was initially in the area of Infectious Diseases at Fairfield Hospital, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Hospital, where he gained much experience in HIV medicine, tropical diseases medicine and hospital based infectious diseases.

Dr Raouf Bassily subsequently undertook specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at the Austin Hospital, which gave him an extensive experience in liver diseases, liver transplantation, luminal gastroenterology, emergency and elective endoscopy.

He has an interest in community Gastroenterology especially Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis), Functional Bowel Disorders (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), Coeliac disease, Colorectal cancer, Polyps and Endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). 

Dr Bassily regularly attends conferences and workshops in his field, and is at the forefront of national and international practice. He is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia and the American Gastroenterological Association. In addition to his private practice, Dr Raouf Bassily holds a public appointment as Consultant Gastroenterologist at Northern Health where he has dedicated almost 25 years of service.

Dr Bassily is a keen skier and enjoys summers in Barwon Heads with his family as well as taking art classes. He speaks French and Arabic fluently.
