Dr Alvin Chung is a Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, and accredited Endoscopist with experience treating a broad range of gastrointestinal disorders. He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2003, followed by basic physician training at the Austin and Northern Hospitals. During this time, he was appointed the Elizabeth Austin Registrar at the Austin Hospital, a leadership role involving oversight of physician training and general medical services.
Dr Chung undertook advanced training in Gastroenterology at both Austin Hospital and Box Hill Hospital, where he gained experience in diagnosing and managing complex gastrointestinal conditions. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), deepening his knowledge in the management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
In addition to his subspecialty interest in IBD, Dr Chung also has a strong interest in functional gastrointestinal disorders, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), as well as liver disease. He is fully accredited to perform Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, and Capsule Endoscopy, and has been re-certified in colonoscopy through the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA).
Dr Chung currently holds public hospital appointments at Northern Health and Eastern Health, and consults privately from rooms in Bundoora and Bulleen.
