Mr Yong graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2003 and subsequently trained in General Surgery through the Victoria Training Program to obtain his fellowship in 2010.
In 2006, Mr. Yong won the Graeme Duffy Memorial Prize for the best research presentation, before he furthered his training in liver, biliary and pancreatic surgery under the auspices of the Australian and New Zealand Hepatic Pancreatic and Biliary Association (ANZHPBA). He also worked in the Australian National Liver Transplant Unit during this time.
Mr Yong is fluent in various languages, including Malay and various Chinese dialects such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Hokien. He currently also holds a public appointment at Northern Hospital, Epping, as a consultant surgeon. Mr Yong is one of a few surgeons in Australia who currently performs the laparoscopic whipple’s procedure.
