Profile

Dr Om Narayan is a cardiologist with an interest in interventional cardiology at Northern Private Hospital and clinical lead for hypertension services at MonashHeart. A large proportion of his work involves caring for patients presenting with chest pain and acute coronary syndromes with a particular interest in the use of advanced imaging technology and invasive physiological assessment, improving patient care.


In addition to his work as a cardiologist, he established a comprehensive hypertension clinic, caring for patients with resistant hypertension at MonashHeart (Monash Health) with an interest in cardiovascular risk factor optimisation.


Om graduated from the University of Melbourne,Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) in 2005. After completing physician training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Om undertook his advanced clinical cardiology training at Geelong Hospital and subsequently joined MonashHeart in 2012. He is the recipient of the prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council Scholarship as well as the inaugural Monash Health Senior Medical Staff Academic Scholarship.


Om’s PhD studies investigated the interactions between aortic pressure, cardiac contraction and coronary blood flow. He has published his research in internationally recognised journals including Hypertension, the Journal of Hypertension and PLOS ONE. He has also presented his research at the European Society of Hypertension meeting and was awarded the prize for best poster. He has also been awarded the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand registrar research prize for his research contributions.
