Dr Frances Barnett is a Medical Oncologist who provides personalised cancer care to her patients and their care-givers where all individuals are treated with compassion and respect.
Frances graduated from The University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with Honours Class 1 in 1999, and subsequently went on to complete her specialist physician training in Medical Oncology in 2007. She has since practiced predominantly in public hospitals in Melbourne, and has been a staff specialist at Northern Health since 2007. She is currently the Director of Medical Oncology at Northern Health, leading a team of Medical Oncologists who all work tirelessly to ensure their patients receive the highest standard of multi-disciplinary comprehensive cancer care.
With primary interests in breast and gastrointestinal cancers, Frances is actively involved in clinical trials evaluating improvements in cancer care. Frances is a member of Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), Australian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG), Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), Clinical Oncology Group of Australia (COSA), in addition to American Society of
Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). Frances contributes to eviQ, a national program that is the preferred source of evidence-based cancer treatment information in Australia.
Recognising the critical importance of teaching and training future generations, Frances is an accredited supervisor of Advanced Trainees in Medical Oncology as well as Basic Physician Trainees for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She is also involved in medical student education at the Northern Clinical School of Melbourne Medical School, University of Melbourne.
