Yahya's career in surgery has taken him across several countries, where he has obtained a wealth of training and experience. He began his basic surgical training in Iraq, working in a busy trauma centre. He later moved to the UAE and the UK, where he completed his basic surgical training and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MRCSI).
Seeking to further his skills and knowledge, Yahya then travelled to Australia, where he completed his advanced surgical training and became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) through Austin Health. After that, Yahya completed a fellowship year in the Acute Surgical Unit at Eastern Health in Victoria. He then went on to complete three years of subspecialty training in upper gastrointestinal tract surgery and interventional endoscopy through the competetive Australia and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgical Association (ANZGOSA) training program. Throughout his ANZGOSA training, Yahya rotated through several busy cancer centres in Western Australia and Victoria.
