Dr Rachel Cooke is Head of Clinical Haematology at the Northern Public Hospital and is co-appointed at the Alfred Hospital at the Plasma Cell Dyscrasia Clinic. She has a special interest in immune-mediated and malignant haematological conditions, in particular lymphoma, myeloma, amyloidosis and chronic leukaemia.
Dr Cooke graduated from the University of Edinburgh and completed clinical and laboratory training at the Austin and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. She attained her PhD “CD4+ T cell fate in Multiple Myeloma” in 2019 through the University of Melbourne at the ACRF Translational Research Laboratory (VCCC). In recent years, she has been working with the Northern team to expand Haematology services and clinical trial provision to patients in the north.
Dr Walter Cosolo is an experienced oncologist who believes that, in addition to providing state of the art multi-disciplinary care for his patients, a holistic approach needs to be adopted to help the patient through their cancer journey.
Urgent patients will be seen within 24 hours of referral during the week.
His experience as working as a palliative care physician across a number of units in Melbourne was a stimulus to use more interventional modalities for difficult pain control syndromes in cancer patients.
Dr Cosolo speaks fluent Italian and has been involved in developing culturally sensitive cancer supports for the Italian community and was a founding member of the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia.
Dr Alex Craven is a General Surgeon with clinical interests in obesity and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He provides consultation and surgery through Advanced Surgical and Darebin Weight Loss Surgery and also works in the Obesity and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical Unit at the Austin Hospital.
Alex works privately at Warringal Private Hospital and the Victorian Day Procedure Centre-all located in Heidelberg.

Dr Oliver Cronin is a Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist caring for patients in Melbourne, Australia. From low-risk cancer screening to high-risk complex endoscopic procedures, Oliver endeavours to provide dedicated, evidence-based, professional and compassionate care. He is passionate about precision medicine and individualised care. He is a firm believer in disease prevention and early detection.
Oliver has gained experience in some of the most eminent academic and clinical centres across the globe. His interventional expertise includes high quality gastroscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy for the detection and effective endoscopic removal of pre-malignant polyps and early cancers. Oliver graduated with high-distinction and a research honours from James Cook University in 2012. He completed Basic Physician training at St Vincent’s Hospital and advanced Gastroenterology training at University Hospital Geelong, St Vincent’s Hospital and the Alfred Hospital.
He was selected for a highly competitive 2-year “Advanced Endoscopic Resection and Therapeutics” Fellowship at Westmead Hospital, under the mentorship of Professor Michael Bourke, a world-leading authority in Endoscopy. His subspeciality training included minimally-invasive endoscopic resection techniques for the resection of early gastrointestinal cancers (endoscopic submucosal dissection).
Oliver was then selected for a prestigious Fulbright Future Scholarship to attend NYU Langone, an innovative, high-volume quaternary Endoscopy centre in New York (USA), under the mentorship of Professor Gregory Haber. NYU Langone is consistently ranked amongst the top 3 hospitals in the United States.
Oliver completed a PhD at the University of Sydney with a focus on high quality, safe and effective endoscopy. He has published >50 original papers, reviews and abstracts in leading international, peer-reviewed journals and he has presented his work at both local and international conferences. The impact of his research has been recognised with a post-graduate NHMRC Scholarship. He is an affiliate Senior Lecturer at Deakin University.
Dr Oliver Cronin is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a public appointment at Northern Health. Oliver works privately at Northern Private Hospital. Oliver is re-certified in colonoscopy through the Gastroenterological Society of Australia.
Mr D'Souza is General Surgeon with an interest in all Colorectal pathology. Patients commonly seek his help for investigation of anaemia, rectal bleeding, bowel cancer, and hernias.
Mr Basil D'Zouza achieved his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. Following this he undertook four years of general and advanced training with fellowships at the Northern Hospital Epping, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney and the Western Hospital in Melbourne. Basil completed his advanced training through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) in 2014.
Mr D'Souza receives great satisfaction from helping his patients succeed in all aspects of their health and well-being and prides himself on being thorough whilst striving to treat all patients with humility and patience.
He also has an interest in clinical research and is actively involved in the teaching, training and supervision of research for medical students, surgical trainees and fellows. Mr Daniel is a General Surgeon with an interest and tarining in colorectal surgery. Originally from Tasmania, he graduated from University of Tasmania in 2006 with First Class Honours and completed his training in General Surgery in Melbourne in 2013.
He subsequently entered four years of sub-specialist training in Colorectal surgery and is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He has public appointments at Northern Health and Monash Health, and private appointments at Northern Private Hospital, Warringal Private Hospital and John Fawkner Hospital.
His interest includes diseases of the small and large bowel, colonoscopy, proctology and minimally invasive surgery. He takes a keen role in the training of future surgeons and is the supervisor of Junior Medical Officers in Surgery at Northern Health.
Dr Das is a Melbourne-based consultant surgeon with qualifications in general and colorectal surgery. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).
Dr Das graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Melbourne and completed her general surgery training in Melbourne in 2018. She undertook further subspecialty training in colorectal surgery, including a fellowship in robotic surgery at Oxford University Hospitals in the United Kingdom.
She has a clinical interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques and is currently pursuing a PhD in personalised medicine for metastatic colorectal cancer through the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Dr Das also regularly contributes to academic and professional conferences in her field.
Dr Bassem Dawood completed his specialist training in respiratory and sleep medicine at Frankston Hospital, the Austin Hospital, and the Northern Hospital. He attained Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
Dr Dawood currently practises as a respiratory physician at Northern Health and holds an Honorary position at the Austin Hospital. He also has admitting rights at Northern Private Hospital. He is the medical director of Sleep and Lung Care, a private group providing respiratory and sleep medicine services at multiple locations across Victoria.
Dr Dawood manages a range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease (ILD). He is also involved in the diagnosis and management of sleep-related disorders.
